Privacy Policy

This policy explains how 816 Ventures ("we," "us") handles personal information across this website (816.ventures) and our mobile application Faves (the "App"). We've written it in plain language, and we've tried to be specific rather than vague.
The short version: We collect the account details you give us and the lists you create. We use them to run the App. We don't sell your personal information, we don't run advertising networks or third-party ad trackers in the App, and every device permission we ask for is optional. You can delete your account and data at any time by emailing admin@816.ventures.
1. Information you give us
- Account information. An email address is required to create an account. Depending on how you sign in, we also receive a name and email from Google or Apple. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email," we only ever see the relay address Apple gives us.
- Profile information. A username, and optionally a profile picture you choose from your photo library.
- Content you create. The lists you build, the items you rank, your tier and ranking choices, notes and commentary you write, and any voice notes you record and attach to an item.
- Social connections. The accounts you follow, who follows you, and recommendations you send to or receive from other users.
- Messages to us. If you email us for support, we keep that correspondence so we can help you.
2. Device permissions — all optional
The App asks for the permissions below only at the moment a feature needs them. You can decline any of them and keep using the App; you can also revoke them later in your device settings.
- Contacts. Used only to help you find people you already know who are on Faves. When contact matching is enabled, contact identifiers are hashed before they leave your device and matched on our server. We do not upload, store, or display your address book, and we never contact anyone in it on your behalf.
- Location. Used only to find restaurants and venues near you when you're adding one to a list. Your location is not stored on your profile, not shown to other users, and not used for advertising or tracking.
- Microphone. Used only when you choose to record a voice note for an item. A recording is attached to that item and is visible to exactly the same people the item's list already is.
- Photo library. Used only so you can pick a profile picture. Only the image you select is uploaded; the rest of your library is never read.
3. Connected accounts
You can optionally connect third-party services (for example, Spotify) to import titles into your lists. When you do, we receive only the data needed to fetch that catalog information on your behalf. We do not post to those accounts, and you can disconnect them at any time. Your use of those services is governed by their own privacy policies.
4. Information collected automatically
- Product analytics. We record in-app events — screens opened, features used, errors encountered — so we can see what's working and what's broken. This is first-party analytics stored in our own database. We do not embed third-party advertising or cross-app tracking SDKs in the App.
- Technical data. Device model, operating system version, app version, language, and IP address, collected as part of ordinary server logs and used for security, debugging, and abuse prevention.
- This website. 816.ventures is a static site. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies. Our hosting provider keeps standard access logs.
5. How we use information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you.
- To store, sync, and display the lists and content you create.
- To power social features — following, feeds, and recommendations.
- To send transactional messages such as sign-in links and notifications you've enabled.
- To debug problems, improve the product, and understand feature usage in aggregate.
- To protect against fraud, abuse, and security incidents, and to comply with law.
We do not use your personal information to build advertising profiles, and we do not sell or rent it.
6. What other people can see
Faves is partly social by design. Your username, profile picture, and the lists you share are visible to other users according to the sharing settings on each list and to the people who follow you. Anything you choose to share can be seen, screenshotted, or re-shared by those people. Your email address, precise location, and contacts are never shown on your profile.
7. Service providers
We keep our vendor list short. We use Supabase for database, authentication, storage, and serverless functions, and a hosting provider for this website. These providers process data on our behalf under contract and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. Sign-in is additionally handled by Google or Apple when you choose those methods.
We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our Terms of Service, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If 816 Ventures is involved in a merger or acquisition, information may transfer as part of that transaction; we'll give notice before it becomes subject to a materially different policy.
8. Retention and deletion
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and its associated content at any time by emailing admin@816.ventures from the address on your account. We will delete or irreversibly anonymize your data within 30 days, except where we must retain records to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements. Backups are purged on a rolling schedule.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. Residents of California have the right to know what we collect, to delete it, to correct it, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights — and we confirm that we do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To exercise any of these rights, email admin@816.ventures. We will not charge you or degrade your service for asking.
10. Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls and row-level security rules that restrict records to the accounts entitled to them. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data we hold, and we'll notify affected users and regulators of a breach as required by law.
11. Children
Faves is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email admin@816.ventures and we will delete it promptly.
12. International transfers
We operate in the United States, and our service providers may process data there. If you use Faves from outside the U.S., you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll give notice in the App or by email before they take effect.
